Reiki Reiki, pronounced ray' kee, is a type of energy healing that is non-invasive and involves the laying on of hands. It literally means "Universal Life Energy". This energy is transferred through the practitioner's hands through conscious channeling. Channeling implies that the healing comes from another higher source. The practitioner is only the conduit for this source. This higher source may be called by different names. Some refer to this Univeral Life Energy as God. However, it does not change the result. This energy remains pure and can find its way to where it is needed. The recipient need only relax and allow the healing to occur. Reiki can be used to treat a variety of illnesses. It can be used to treat arthritis and migraine. Conditions such as cerebral palsy, for which there is no medical treatment, respond to the healing energy of Reiki. Through personal experience, I have found that it is very effective in assisting cancer patients. It alleviates the nausea and sleeplessness associated with chemotherapy. Reiki has the added benefit of helping the patient find the strength to fight their illness. Reiki can also be used for general wellness. Clients find that it has a calming effect and helps them relax. There are three different degrees of reiki practitioners: Reiki I, Reiki II and Reiki Master. First degree students are wired into or "attuned" to this energy. The student begins to use this source once it is activated. The energy has always been available, but now he or she has been connected to it. Once he or she is acclimated to this wiring, it can be upgraded to Reiki II. It has extra power and functions and the practitioner has greater control and flexibility. It is not better, but it is more versatile. From there, the student can make a commitment to the science of reiki and become a Reiki Master. Unlike hypnosis, the client needs only to be willing to accept the healing. Normally, the treatment sessions lasts one hour. Restful music is played and the client may rest peacefully or sleep. Both hour and half hour reiki sessions are available. The cost for one hour is $65 and the cost for a half hour is $35. Please contact me if you would like to schedule an appointment. |

It is believed that the practice of Reiki originated around 3,000 BC. It was hidden and taught in various monastic orders. The essentials of the system were encoded in the sutras.
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese theologian, began searching through these texts to activate and harness the universal life force hidden in these sutras. With the help of monks, he was able to activate and harness them sometime between 1870 and 1880. He passed this knowledge on to Dr. Hayashi, who operated a clinic in Tokyo, Japan.
This knowledge was passed on again in 1938 to Mrs. Hawayo Takata in Hawaii. At the time of her death in 1938, she had initiated 22 students as Reiki Masters. The ancient knowledge of Reiki then began to spread throughout the world.
To learn more about Reiki, I recommend the following books: "The Original Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui", by Mikao Usui and Frank Arjava Petter. "Reiki: The Healing Touch", by William Lee Rand.
