Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis (hypnotherapy) is another name for medical hypnosis. Medical hypnosis can be used for stress management, surgical and post surgical healing, sleep disorders, memory skills, creativity, athletic enhancement, smoking and weight loss. It is can also be used to lessen the side effects of chemotherapy.  In fact, almost any illness or medical condition, can be treated through hypnosis.

The success of hypnosis is due to the fact that you enter into a naturally occuring, heightened state of awareness called trance. If you have ever driven by your exit on the highway or zoned out watching television, you have been in a state of trance. During trance, your mind overrides the critical factor in your brain and allows you to accept helpful suggestions and disregard those that do not meet your needs. You hear and remember most of what is said, as trance is not sleep. Trance terminates automatically when your needs have been met.

The success of trance is based on the use of relaxation techniques, such as guided imagery. This imagery may use your sense of sight, sound, smell, and/or touch. Music further relaxes you and deepens this state of trance. It is like a pleasant meditation where you are transported, mentally, to a place of your choosing. Trance does not permit any kind of brainwashing and you are in control at all times. While in trance, you will remember most of what is said.  In fact, this applies to 90% of the population.  The other 10%, however, are no less in control and still recall some of what is said during the session.

If you are being treated for an illness or medical condition, the hypnotist will address the etiology, or history, of that condition and make suggestions to correct it.  For instance, if you suffer from diabetes, the hypnotist may suggest that your body "safely use insulin more effectively for your overall good."  In this way, you may need less. Your doctor also needs to be a part of this process. Therefore, if you are being treated by one, Marilyn will need his/her written permission before beginning therapy. This is a coopertive process; the better the cooperation between your caregivers, the better the outcome.

Clinical hypnosis can take place on an individual or group basis.  The cost of an individual session is $100 for the first session and $80 thereafter for the same condition.  The cost of a group session is $50 per person.
